Photovoltaic systems use cells to convert solar radiation into electrical energy.

The photovoltaic cells are composed of two or more layers of semiconductor material, which is generally silicon. When the solar radiation focuses on the cells, an electric field is created between the semiconductor layers, resulting in a flow of electrons. The greater the intensity of radiation, the greater the flow of electrons, in other words, the greater the electric current.


A group of cells connected to each other forms a photovoltaic module. The photovoltaic modules convert solar energy into direct current electrical energy. The photovoltaic systems are composed of DC-AC converters (inverters), enabling the direct current to be converted into alternating current (which is typically used in consumer equipment).

The photovoltaic systems, composed of modular arrangements, can be integrated into buildings or in large centralised production farms.
