Objectives and Expected Outcomes

The project aims to install a high-efficiency, reliable battery-based electrical storage system to support the operation of the Ferreira do Alentejo Photovoltaic Power Plant. It is a technologically mature solution, although still with limited application in the national context, particularly in hybrid projects involving renewable energy production. With the implementation of this project, the following objectives are intended:

  • The installation of an electrical storage system with a nominal power of 5 MW and a capacity of 10 MWh, capable of storing locally produced energy and ensuring its availability during periods of higher demand;

  • The efficient integration of the storage system with the Photovoltaic Power Plant, using the same grid connection point (RESP) to optimise energy management of the production unit and promote flexibility in the national electricity grid;

  • The improvement of grid stability and security by reducing the variability of renewable generation and providing system services, contributing to the efficient operation of the electricity system;

  • The reinforcement of the electrical system's resilience, ensuring the efficient integration of renewable production and contributing to the achievement of national and European energy transition targets.
